Why are kids that ride the school bus not required by law to wear seat belts....but when a kids rides in my car no matter how big my car is they ARE required to wear seat belts?
Is the bus driver a safer driving than me?

We still had to take all the regular bus saftey courses. Anyway the short answer to your question is basically safety. Yeah. I know, crazy huh? But the theroy was that if you were to get into an accident, it would be much easier and much faster to get everyone off the bus quickly if there weren't anyone in a seatbelt."
Now I don't know if I've happy I got an answer or more incensed!
This is an excellent question and I hope someone will respond with the answer. Also, what does the school do for an under 80 pound child that is required to have a child's seat in the car but not on the school bus?
ReplyDeleteI always wondered that!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend with a petite 12-year-old daughter that is still required to have a car seat. Lord, I used to run around on the floorboards when we were growing up, crawl into the back window..there were no seatbelts back in the day!
GREAT question. And just ONE MORE reason Miss Jayla will NOT be riding the bus to school this coming year!
ReplyDeleteThat's not the law in all the states. In NJ, children are required to buckle up
ReplyDeleteand that would be America for you... i love my country, do not mistake that, but at times, the law making branch of our government has clearly got their heads in the sand!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a time in high school when we were headed to a basketball game far away from home. The drive had a few little nips of whiskey (so we think) hit a sign going over a creek. Scared us to death. The next night the boys started singing "we all died in a little yellow school bus" to the tune of the Beatles "Yellow Submarine". They got in school suspension, driver probably later passed away with a bottle in his pocket.
ReplyDeleteCome see me, I've tagged you for some questions!!!
I've always wondered that myself. Doesn't make sense to me.
ReplyDeleteOur school buses have seat belts. When we go on school trips we check that all the kids are belted before we start moving. I don't understand why all buses don't have seatbelts.
ReplyDeleteAh Grasshopper...this has been the debate for many years. Some school busses have been equipped with seatbelts, but many don't have them. They should. IMHO kids are in more danger of being tossed around in a school bus accident than in a car.
ReplyDeleteSomething else to consider: most chartered busses don't have seatbelts either, and whenever I'm on one it's usually with my child.
Good point. I've never though of that!! I'm surprised here in this litigation culture it hasn't been required yet!
ReplyDeleteI AGREE!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never understood this either!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an important question, and one that really bothers me. I can only believe that it all comes down to the money it would cost to install seat belts in schoolbuses. Which is a shame.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point
ReplyDeleteYou always come up with such great topics! While I agree with you and your commenters, I'll give some information on the topic.

I wonder the same thing all the time.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder the same thing!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow what a cutie that little one is!
Hey! I wanted to be the expert on this! Of course, I had no idea how to answer it so that could have been a potential roadblock.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Corey's answer makes perfect sense so I'm satisfied.
Also wanted to add--Check my blog. I'm leaving you something! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have NEVER understood that either!
ReplyDeleteLove the name of your blog - When I saw it I knew I had to check it out, being a fellow Brit...even though I'm completely "Americanized" now!!!
ReplyDeleteJen:)
Just stopping by to say HI! Not sure of the answer to the question ... but my opinion is that kids should have to wear seat belts on buses and cars. I've seen the damage not wearing a seat belt causes.
ReplyDeleteKim
Yes I don't understand that either.
ReplyDeleteWhen they don't have a seatbelt on the bus then when there an accident all the kids go flying out the window and everywhere!!Thats crazy!!
