NPR's provoking my thoughts once again....

I was listening to NPR on my morning commute as usual and Steve Inskeep was interviewing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

And Ahmadinejad asked a question that I found thought provoking:

"Are 300 million people here in America members of either of the two parties? No, not necessarily. People have no other choices here. You only have two choices. In Iran, at least, we have eight."

It made me think...Can you be president without being a Republican or Democrat?

Now you know I don't like politics...I've had it up to here (I'm raising my hand well above my head) with all of it and I honestly can't wait for it to be over, even if history is being made, I'm sorry and I know how ignorant that might sound for those who are loving it right now. And I don't want an bunch of hate emails like poor Susie Q got when she thought her blog was her blog (the sheer audacity of you Susie Q :0))!

But I thought about it, do we really only have two parties to pick from? I mean I know other parties like the Green Party are around but who votes for them?

It's the same in England so nothing new to me...it's either Labour or Conservative and some smaller wondering party.

I'm by no means saying I agree with anything Ahmadinejad had to say he was his usual vocal self in the interview and you'd have to listen to the entire thing to get an overall context of the conversation and of course the overall tone.

But I just wondered what others thought...without jumping to hard on your political band wagon...can you be president without belonging to either party? I'm no history buff so I'm relying on someone else to answer this question for me....or at least provoke my thoughts once again!!!

P.S. I'm absoluletly po'd that Darius Rucker itsn't touring NY....What Afro-European people don't like Country in NY or what? LOL

  2. I once pondered the same question after Ron Paul failed to gain even one-third of people's attention.

*I thought Ron Paul would've been the best choice for America, even though he's slightly insane*

I think many voters stick with one party and others go with what's happening, for an independant ticket to ever garner the nod.

  3. I listened to that too...: )

Uh huh...now I am getting emails that aske me why I don't post anything political! After getting slammed because I posted a silly thing for *Michael* Palin for VP! Sheesh.

I just want this all over. I have no problem telling anyone who I will vote for but the reactions of people are amazing!
If you cote this way you are a nut, a hippie, a Communist, Un-Christian, a member of the elite society. Vote that way and you are uneducated, ill-informed, racist,
sexist and a member of the decidely NOT elite class.
I have heard all of these said about people in the last few months. None of these things actually apply to most voters, some perhaps, but still it gets said.
I have voted for Democrats and Republicans and Independants. Wouldn't it be wonderful if people would rid themselves of party affiliations?

People vote for all sorts of *bad* reasons...they like a candidates haircut, spouse's smile, their dog,
the way they hold a coffee cup...oh well. AT least they vote. I guess I would rather have someone passionately wild than totally apathetic! Except when they email me to yell at me over a silly post! *grin*

    Love,
    Sue
