Who says you have to add growth hormones and pesticides to make your produce grow BIG!
My Aunt D grew TWO of these gigantic pumpkins in her back yard.
This one is the smaller of the two.
Big C said it felt as if it weighed at least 50lbs!
Not quite sure how Auntie cut it all up but she did and we managed to take a big piece home.
I made some Crock Pot Turkey Pumpkin Chili and then baked some with a Chicken last Sunday.
It looks like your Auntie grew a Japanese pumpkin called a Kabocha. Have Baby C look that up. Wow, it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHI Granny Annie...a quick look at Wikipedia it says "An average kabocha weighs 2-3 pounds but can weigh as much as 8 pounds." this was def bigger than 8lbs. I believe my aunt just threw out seeds from a pumpkin she ate. So can seeds cross breed once they're in the ground or would the pumpkin she grew be the same as the pumpkin seeds she ate?
DeleteI've never seen a pumpkin grown in a backyard nor had I ever witnessed a green pumpkin. So you and your Aunt D have really taught me something this morning. And your meal sounds pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThat is one big pumpkin! She wasn't thrown off by the color? My kids would have given it the side eye. They think everything should look just as it does on the cartoons. Kids.....
ReplyDeleteNo not at all...my mother is from Jamaica so I think she's cooked every shade of pumpkin there is so Baby C is used to all the different shades by now for which I'm truly thankful!
DeleteJust read your post about "Turning 34 is Not So Bad" you're goals are great...so tell me how do you manage to keep up with grad school and kids and everything else. I've thought about going back for grad school and I just don't think I'd be able to keep up....I feel as if I barely keep up with my daughters school, extra curricular activities, dinner and the house and my husband helps out way more than the average husband. I'd love to know how you manage it I could do with some tips!
