It's not like there's a whole bunch of things going on in my life either, but tons of little piddly things that need to be started, continued, followed up on and finished!!!
We had a fantastic time in SC and even signed up for a timeshare, and of course we spent the entire time since we've got back wondering if we've done the right thing even though everyone we've spoken to who either owns one or has one in the family has nothing but good things to say about it. My only interest in the darn thing is having somewhere to stay when we travel to Europe as most of the packages I looked at for Greece and Italy it was the hotel cost that made my eyes nearly come out of my head. So we shall see what happens and hope for the best.
On a completely unrelated note, sometimes I feel like such a new mother or even a new human being. Baby C was drawing with crayons in day care yesterday and when I picked her up in the evening they asked me if I was working with her at home on her writing and that I'm doing a good job because at 16 months she's holding a crayon like an adult would with her thumb and forefinger. Of course I couldn't lie and told them that just last night was the first night I grabbed the basket of crayons and some paper and sat her down on the kitchen floor to draw in a desperate attempt to distract her so that I could cook a chicken pot pie. She drew one picture and of course I was over the moon and then she found more fun in emptying the entire basket of crayons onto the floor and slowly peeling the wrappers of them. As long as she was happy and I could get the darn pie in the oven I didn't mind at all. But during her little art adventure I had no idea that she was holding the crayon in a manor not normal to many kids her age it looked normal to me so I didn't think anything of it.
Is there a list somewhere of what a child is supposed to be doing or not doing at a certain age? Once again I wish babies came with instruction manuals, I always feel so inadequate as a parent when people tell me how wonderful it is that Baby C is doing this or that at this age and there I've been just assuming that she's supposed to know all her body parts and hold a pen properly! Duh! I know it's all a learning curve for both parent and child but I wish I could get that blank surprised look of my face when she does something and someones immediate reaction is "How old is she?". Most of the times it's not rockets science that she's doing so I really don't understand the big deal, but I hope I'm not down playing her achievements due to ignorance, but once I find that baby instruction manual I should be on track!!! LOL I feel so bad for my next child, nothing will seem like a big deal by the time that one comes along if nothing seems that big now! I think for me walking, talking and potty are the big things...everything else is just, "Well isn't she supposed to be doing that by now!".
I say that with a aghast because I live, eat and breath via my calendar and if someone sent me an invitation one week before the event it just wouldn't happen!! I just wouldn't be able to make it. I'm not saying we live ultra busy lives but the calendar gets filled up soooo quickly two months out with this and that and that and this it's crazy!!!
My cousin is pregnant and she's going to have a girl! I am sooo super excited. We are a family of predominantly females so I would have loved a boy but of course a healthy baby is the best. Of course I'm holding out all hope that I can produce a boy in the next two years myself before my eggs disappear on me!!
Ok last and by no means least...when will blogger make it so that when you insert a photo it actually inserts the photo where you curser is and not back at the top of the post for you to then copy and paste in the place you wanted it in the first place? Is it that hard. I guess it might be!!! LOL So with all that said this is how I feel right now...after running backwards for over a week now and all I really want to do is sit back and read other people blogs while eating some English chocolate!:
The photo thing on blogger frustrates me too. 'Course I have the old blogger so mine might be even worse?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the upcoming new cousin!!!!
The grip - one thing you can do if you want her to maintain a good grip is *break* her crayons, believe it or not! If they have *regular* crayons (not the extra fat kind that used to be common for little kids) and their broken into a few pieces, it sort of forces their fingers into the correct grip. There's not room for them to make an entire fist around the crayon. The important part is that their fingers are doing the movement/work & not their wrists. This is a really good handwriting program -
Handwriting without tears
First of all ... let me say how proud I am of you getting your husband on the calender thing, we're still working on that over here but it gets better all the time!
ReplyDeleteAnd about Little C - just smile and say she's a genious! They all develop and grow and learn at their own pace I think ... and Joel likes to peel the wrappers off the crayons and throw them all over the place so I have put them away for the time being!
Hope you have a wonderful day and that it all settles down!
Kim
PS, how cool about the time share - Matt's parents gave us their week for our honeymoon and we were able to stay in Scotland at least for one week for way cheaper!
ah, a good book for you would be "What to Expect the Toddler Years."
ReplyDeleteIt's in the pregnancy/childhood section, right along with the "What to Expect When You're Expecting."
love all the pics!
:)
Welcome back! What a great post.
ReplyDeleteNow you KNOW my issues with blogger. So I won't bore you with THOSE details anymore. Hmmm, I may have to post something about that soon. Maybe the BLOGGER man will read it and FIX the problem :-).
Again, glad you had a nice vacation and that you're back.
I never read any books about what the kiddos should be doing becasue I was worried I would freak out if they were "behind". It sounds like Baby C is doing great, and I say keep doing what you're doing!! :) Hope you find a time share overseas for your next adventure! :)

Great full post...love that when I'm catching up on my cyber buddies...being the mama to five, I use the guidelines my pediatrician uses on those milestone visits...but others have given you some great resources already...just remember that all kids progress at their own pace...enjoy every moment of it.
ReplyDeleteHello, I am visiting from Dawn's blog! My daughter will be three next month and she breaks her crayons all the time. Not sure what THAT is about! Honey you should be my age (going on 41) with a young one. THAT is an adventure all in itself! I never knew how much I 'didn't know about babies until I finally had one of my own. Off to explore your blog! Your little one is adorable! We have the same pink cowgirl boots!
