That's me...planner to the T...if I wasn't for the Palm Treo and Outlook I'd still carry around my Franklin Organizer and scribble away to my heart content (I hate when people moved and I had to use white out to change their address!).
Big C and I take turns cooking. I'm Tuesdays and Thursdays; he's Monday and Wednesdays. Then if I feel compelled I'll also cook fish on Fridays and if he doesn't piss me off my Sunday I'll also cook Sunday dinner, as that's the only meal he actually begs me for. He says it reminds him of his mother cooking Sunday dinners, so it's the least I can do. Of course like other cholesterol-laden families we eat out on Saturdays and breakfast at the diner on Sunday mornings. We even take turns making lunches each day, so the more I type the more I realize Big C's not half bad!!!
Anyway, when it comes to my dinner days I have to plan ahead of time. If I don't plan I find myself making something quick and not nutritionally balanced, and being over weight I hate that feeling. Big C on the other hand waits until moments before and always whisks up something that's heavy on the arteries but tastes sooooo good!!! I figure as we take turns it can't be that bad to clog the arteries twice a week.
This time I took planning to a whole another extreme.... I literally pulled out a cookbook one Sunday afternoon and planned my meals for the MONTH!! Yes people I did say a month!!! I absolutely hate coming home to cook dinner and realize that I don't have something that the recipe is calling for. Then I run the dilemma of running the grocery store and delaying dinner by 2 hours and also run the risk of impulse shopping...those check out aisles filled with nonsense were created JUST for me...they scream "Hey buy me.... no buy me over here...no silly you NEED me!!!"
So in the attempts to eliminate all that impulse shopping and just shopping in general, we have a big stand up freezer and we defy the laws of freezer burn and buy in bulk wherever possible and then incidentals once a month for produce that just can't be frozen.... which isn't much I must tell you!!!! LOL
But I do like to cook, if I have the time, energy and ingredients, and i LOVE trying new foods and new recipes. I get all excited when a recipe calls for something I've never used before, though I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the box of Quinoa that I used only once.... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really like finding recipes that will use leftovers that I have.... like those recipes that call for 1/2 cup of phillelphia cream cheese and now you're left with 1 and 1/2 cups more of philadelphia cheese and you're shaking your head wondering what to do...what to do....
My biggest problem so far has been remember which recipes we liked and which recipes the chef should have been shot when he thought of it...
So I thought I'd blog my recipes, that way I can use the handy dandy search and tagging on blogger and find recipes that Big C would love to eat again...and he's always very clear with which ones I shouldn't even feed to the dog and which ones make him feel uncomfortably fat because they were sooooo good!!!

As you can see some days don't turn out as planned and I don't get around to making what I planned but the intention is ALWAYS there!!
Oh my you are organised! I don't like cooking so I don't plan and just look at what I've got in the fridge. Usually not a lot, it's very small. So I often just have a sandwich. Lazy or what!
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd be more into cooking when I retired but no, I'd rather knit or sew.
The BBC Food website is fantastic if you haven't seen it. There's some great recipes there whether you need to cook something ordinary or very special.
