Big C came home from a surprise dinner party grimacing in pain Saturday. He complained of a pain in his lower right abdomen...all I could think of was an appendicitis or really really bad gas.
I made him some hot tea looked at his stubborn face and informed him that if he still had that look on his face within 10 minutes I was dragging his ass to the ER like it or not.
Why are men so damn stubborn? I mean who's going to take out the recycling and trash while they play the stubborn game and end up in bed all week??? :0)
We got there in no time, with sleeping kids in tow and it took forever for him to get admitted, something about a jewish holiday and few doctors on staff. We'd been there at least twice before for emergencies and we were always in and out within 2 hours so this over night stuff was new to me!!
I wasn't prepared at all, other wise I would have brought snacks, and drinks and crossword puzzles and a fully charged ipod touch.... nothing like humor during emergencies!
Finally around 4am I just couldn't hang on any longer especially not knowing what was going on in the back. I heard them call a "code grey" turned the woman next to me with a quizzical look on my face and luckily she explained that was a "cardiac arrest" call....I knew a "lower right abdomen pain" could not result in that, but I still wanted to know what in the world was going on with Big C.
The nurse finally let me wheel a sleeping Baby C and stroller to the back for a quick moment, I got to see that Big C all well and good and was merely still waiting on blood work and a doctor.
He insisted I go home and that he'd call once the doctor saw him.
I got 3 hours sleep that night, the phone finally rang at 7am. He sounded tons better and that was all I cared about, I didn't even ask him what was wrong, just knowing he was ok was news enough.
I picked him up moments later and finally found out the mystery diagnosis: KIDNEY STONES!
Big C's father is still rubbing lotion on the scars from surgery he had last year for kidney stones and his grandfather had surgery 2 years ago for the same thing...who knew kidney stones could be inherited?
So with the kidney stones out of the way, well for now, all we have left to worry about is the diabetes and the arthritis....I swear this mans falling apart? But I love him all the same, parts and all.

glad he is ok! and hey... at least bay c was asleep! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, oh my goodness, you have given me quite the education on kidney stones. Whew, I don't want them EVER! Your poor guy. So is it gone or does he still face surgery? Has he applauded you yet for making sure he went to the hospital? You are a calmer person than I would have been under the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad he's ok I didn't know that they were inherited either.
ReplyDeleteHoly kidney stone! I've had one and it was one too many. WORSE than childbirth, I tell ya.
ReplyDeleteGlad he's feeling better!
