I keep my loose change in a big old water bottle...you know the ones the Culligan man delivers! It's not even half way full and I'm anxious to empty it to see how much money is in it. My uncle waited until his was full and ended up with $400 in his. Patience is a virtue with which I was not blessed!! LOL
Back in the good old days (I know, like I'm that old right? LOL) the banks would count it free of charge. The last I heard they charged you if you didn't have an account with them and who wants to stand inline for 30 minutes to count change. (Though I think Commerce Bank might count for free now...I can see that commerical with Regis and Kelly Ripa in my head and boy does Kelly get on my last nerve (sorry Ripa fans!)?)

Anyhoo, I saw a commercial for cointstar and they now have a new caimpaign. INSTEAD of them charging you a percentage fee, you can now turn your money into gift cards!!! I think this is a fantastic idea!!!
The commercial only mentions gift cards for Starbucks, Amazon.com and iTunes...but just now I visited their website and they have tons of gift cards that you can select!!
At first it was a no brainer which gift card I was going for, even Big C said with pure sarcasm..."Hmm wonder which card you'll select"... it was STARBUCKS all the way!! but now I'm not sure...they have Borders and tons of others.
What do you do with your manuals and warranties?
Our manuals and warranties are all haphazardly stuffed in a plastic crate and it's torture to go through the entire pile looking for just one darn manual, like I did last night looking for the printer manual. I'd love it if the manuals just came on a CD or something!!!
So what do you do with yours? Are yours shoved some place too or do you have some neat old organizational thingy going on with yours?
What do you do with your loose wires?
Our wires to camcorders, mini vacs, computers, printers, walkmans you name it are in ANOTHER plastic crate sitting right next to the manuals. Now this pile is even more nightmarish than the manuals. I mean after 4 years who knows what color, size or ampage the cord that goes to the personal cd player looks like for heavens sakes! I mean they're all coiled up nice and neat but, murphys law says, "You always need the wire that's ALL the way that bottom of the crate!".
So what do you do with your loose wires, besides throw them in the trash and pray you don't need them later!
Good questions. Let's see; our loose change is in a jar in our closet. It's mostly pennies...but they add up too, don't they?
ReplyDeleteManuals: that depends on what it's for. Since I'm the one that uses all THREE of our printers and camera, I keep those in a file cabinet at my desk. Loose cables: that's DH's job. :-)
I usually don't do anything with my loose change, my children usually "jack" me for it.....LOL

I got a big water jug, too - though I throw ticket stubs and random doo-dads and little momentos in there, too - so when the day comes to cut it open and count it out - I will be entertained with the memories of things like the cork from a bottle of wine shared on a special night long ago, or a casino die I found on the street of A.C. once, or political buttons collected at rallies and marches.
ReplyDeleteAs for manuals, I have a space a filing cabinet for them - but a lot of time I throw them out if there is nothing left to learn and the warranty is expired.
Wires (and there are only a handful) are in a desk drawer under the computer, wound up and tied with twist ties.

So all of you that have the manuals in a filing cabinet are they all in one file folder? Or spread out?
ReplyDeleteI used to keep them in one file folder but there are just too many of them now to fit in one folder...it would take about 5 or so.
As for the wires...those of you that have them nicely coiled are they labelled...I mean how do you know what they go to?
Oh yes, two challenges to being organized:manuals and wires/cords...I finally went through our manuals last year, and threw out some useless ones. I keep my large appliance ones together,my kids toys/supplies(strollers, cribs, etc.) in one, and then a third for small appliances and miscellaneous. Change goes in a little statue head named "Akawakatacoo" He came from Easter Island.(I however picked him up at a yard sale when I was in high school!!) ANd wires... they are in a box tucked neatly away in the attic. They'll never see the light of day again, but we MUST save them...says my DH!!
ReplyDeleteOMG I like totally never thought anyone thought what I thought about what your were thinkin' about! I mean the whole change thing...I give All money I find lyin' aroud to my kids. Put it right in thier piggi bank. The manuals...holy moly I need to search for them like right now!!! Shoot I don't know where the heck they all are!! And the loose cables, Pretty much the same story! I better clean house tomarrow, Thanks for the awakening girl!!! -Karla
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on Coinstar so I can pass that on to my students. I collect change in 4 places: one container for kids to give as offering for church, #2 is a ceramic piggy bank for when container #1 is out, #3 is a tin box with a lid for stamps for business letters and cards and #4 in a small compartment in my car if I ever have to pay for parking meter. I do not like saving it. All of my manuals are in a the top compartment of a 3-tier table near my computer for easy access. All the cords I own are in a storage container under my kitchen sink along with nails, screws, hammer and other gadgets I might use one day.
