So do you think America is even ready for a women president? Do you think America is ready for an African American president? I don't think America is ready for either. I don't know what I think it would take for America to be ready but I don't think they are ready right now. But I would love for them TO be ready though. How interesting it would be to watch every twist and turn of their term. There would be so much scrutiny, so much comparison, so much critcism.
It would make for some interesting "Dateline" and "60 Minutes" watching that's for sure, I can hear Andy Rooney already!! Talking of television I can't believe the next episode of Survivor is quickly approaching. I mean I wanted some good tv as there's nothing on tv that I like right now....well except "24" "The Hills" and "Dancelife" and the usual "Dateline", "60 Minutes" and "48 Hour Mystery". But anyway, I can't believe they have a homeless guy on this time around, (Oh I’m back talking about Survivor if I lost you), I mean you automatically think that the homeless guy is going to know how to survive right? I mean he won't complain about the cold, the wet and the uncomfortable sleeping arrangements? He won't complain about being hungry right? He'd better know how to make fire and a damn shelter that's for sure!!! I bet he goes home the first week now that I've said all that! Oh well we shall see.
So back to the presidency...so my husband says if Giuliani wins he's leaving the country. Please he barely left his old neighborhood and that's only after I begged him to move the burbs!!! Yes he's a city boy...oh I mean man...he hates it when people call him boy. He says it's a reflection on the master calling the slaves boy even if they were grown men. I mean I can see where he's coming from, but sometimes because I don't live in his shoes it's hard for me to get where he's coming from. I mean I guess I feel that not everyone who might call him boy has a negative connotation behind it but I guess he would say "And you know this because..."
Anyway there I go again, I digress...back to the presidency. I don't have a clue who I'd like to see win. Not that I have a say in the matter. I'm still a British Citizen so I don't have the right to vote. And let me tell you, it doesn't bother me at all. I mean I've always been interested in politics don't get me wrong, but I've always had that rather ignorant attitude where I assume my vote really doesn't make a difference so I've never been interested in voting here or back home in good old England. I know I should slap myself...every vote counts right! It's kind of like every penny counts...without 100 of them you don't have a dollar!!!
Well I think I've rambled on enough, and mostly about nothing, but those are the best rambles...I mean if it's about something can it really be called rambling????? LOL
Of course I can't leave without a picture of the little one. We had lunch at our friends house in New Jersey last weekend. They bought Baby C a build a bear and she loved the bear, but once she was done loving the thing she became obsessed with the box. So what would any good parent do but put her in the box!!!

a woman president??? I don't think Americans will do it yet...at least not Hillary! (now if Hiedi Klum ran,yes...LOL) Now, being a Yankee, living in the South, I can tell you I agree with your husband about the way some people use the term "boy".I have heard it said in the fashion Big C is referring to, and it is obnoxious. I had to keep telling people when I moved first moved here, that just cause I have pale skin does not mean I am prejudice like they automatically think. On the Build A Bear pictures... too cute! I love that she wanted the box. She takes the best pictures. Emerson always smiles, but man... Lincoln makes these gooofy faces and ends up looking like a weirdo! LOL... Have you been braving the chilly basement for the treadmill? I must admit, it has been cold here, and I won't go anywhere near that freezing cold garage!LOL...
ReplyDeleteAlright, I am not going to jump on the political bandwagon today. I too am a little ignorant when it comes to politics, however, I know when and when not to debate the issue(s). But for the record, I, personally am not ready for either (woman or black).
ReplyDeleteThose pictures of Baby C are so cute. She's such a sweetie! Jayla has a Build a Bear...but he's lost in the wilderness of her toy closet :-).
Great "rambling" post, by the way! :)
The boxes are always the best! But I LOVE that bear!
ReplyDeleteI DO understand where your husband is coming from...I have heard it used in the awful sense. I know it is a difficult thing for me...I would never wish to say the wrong thing and look like someone who DOES not care.
I oersonally do not care what a person is or looks like or whatever...who runs for office. I just know we need a change. I am sad to say that many Americans may not be ready...some will never be ready for anything but the status quo. I just want the brightest and best...: )
LOVE the pictures of that sweet face. Always makes me smile!
Have a wonderful week.
Hugs,
Sue
I'm not very politically literate so here's my quick 2 cents...I think one, it'd be cool to see a woman in charge, and it's about time the Americans see that a female can do the job and as far as an African American woman...bring it on, that'd be even better. I mean...seriously....there's nothing that a female couldn't do that a man could and then add to the mix the african american to the mix...voila! I think it'd be awesome!! But what do I know, i'm just a dumb american, lol
ReplyDeleteI plan on working on Hillary's campaign if she wins the Dem bid. However, I don't feel that the US is ready for a female or non-white president. We aren't even ready for a female or non-white vice-president. But to me the only thing Bill Clinton had going for him during his two terms in office was Hillary.
ReplyDeleteOh and I am with your husband...if Guiliani wins I am leaving the country too.
It is not a matter of "ready".
ReplyDeleteI have this conversation in terms of an openly gay professional athelete.
Was American society and Major League Baseball ready for Jackie Robinson?
No, clearly not - but his presence *MADE* them ready (eventually).
What does ready even mean? Does ready mean they won't get threats and people won't say racist/sexist shit about them both overtly and covertly? If that is what it means, then we will never be ready.
Just like Jackie Robinson, the first black president and the first woman president are going to have to be strong people above and beyond what you and I can take. . . the kind of abuse he had to endure is something we will probably never know - but no one would argue that it was necessary for the betterment of our society.
Of course, the main difference here is that this black person and/or woman would have to actually be elected - which I guess is a better gauge of readiness.
Ready or not, America - here we come. ;)
Oh, and if someone who does not have english as a second language that calls me "boy" is getting a smack in the mouth.
- O
Oh, i forgot to get back to my original point about gay atheletes.
ReplyDeleteAre sports ready for them? Probably not.
Do gays have a right to be involved in pro sports openly? Yes. (let's not kid ourselves and think there aren't any already)
And pro sports will never be "ready" until someone steps up to take on that suffering for every other would-be gay professional athelete - and the same goes for a black or female president.
- Still O
