Has anyone seen a ghost before?

I've only ever told Big C this before but every night, usually in the pre dawn hours when the house is really, really still and eerie I ALWAYS find myself in the need of the bathroom. Sorry that I’m sharing this with you but bear with me here...

As I creep down the stairs I turn every light on as I go as I’m terrified!! I’m not terrified that someone’s in the house, or that someone’s broken into the house…but I’m terrified that someone who’s dead is coming to visit.

I know this sounds crazy but I’m always so scared that someone close to me that’s passed on will find my bathroom time an opportune time to say "Hello, how you doing!". And I’m always scared it will be the same two people...either my grandmother who I didn’t know that well or my mother in law whom I never got to meet.

I’m always scared that as I’m on the toilet I’ll look up and see a shadow passing by or that I’ll see a person just standing in the door way of the bathroom. Just typing this is making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

I know it sounds crazy but there have been times I’ve been so scared to down stairs that I’ve either held it for as long as I could or I’ve woken Big C up and asked him to come down stairs with me!! I know how crazy is that?

Now don’t get me know I’m not scared of the dark...I love the dark, I love watching tv with no lights on…and I can’t sleep with the lights on and I refuse to buy my daughter a night light. But I am scared of ghosts no matter how friendly the ghost might be.

Even before I gave birth I had this nagging day dream that my mother in law was going to come and visit me while I was in hospital right after I gave birth. I can still see the image in my head…I just knew she was going to appear at the foot of my hospital bed smiling at me holding baby C, and she’d say that she just came to say hello and to see her grand daughter. Now I know this would be a nice event but just the thought still scares me and all the nights I spent in hospital I would wake up in the still of the night in that quiet room and pray that when I opened my eyes that she wouldn’t be there.

I wish I had a picture with me to post…my daughter has her hair and the brightness of her eyes.

ETA: June 9th picture added...finally found a good picture after spending months of scanning in cards.

  1. Hmmm, ok...I'm kinda at a loss here. You are TOO funny! No, I don't think I've ever seen a ghost before. But that's not to say that one hasn't seen me...LOL.
I will say this though, at least the "ghosts" that you think you'll see while on the potty, seem to be nice. Nor do they seem to present you with any harm.
Do I see a LO in the works??? BOO!!! :-)

  3. What a smile I have...I don't think I have ever seen a ghost but I don;t know. I do dream about my dad and my inlaws that are gone a lot. My grandparents too...sometimes it seems they were here.
At least your ghosts would be nice ones and that is good. I think they would be far too polite to come in while you are going potty. That would be rude!

    Love,
    Sue

  4. Ga! I hate to throw fuel on your fire, but my mother maintains that she saw the ghost of her own grandmother, standing at the foot of her bed...this when she was 29 years old, and my sister and I were with her. Why she chose to say "oh, I saw Grandma last night" to the little kid that I was....

...put me in the same state that you are in, for the rest of my life. Once my own grandmother died, I used to move through dark areas, praying directly to her NOT to show herself, with words like "now is not a good time, ok, gramma?"

If I never saw her, does it mean she was listening?

    sweet dreams...:-D

  5. Well...I believe there are "spirits" as I just explained to my son two nights ago...so weird that I just read your post.

My aunt had ghosts in her home before and honestly I think if you're feeling the vibes, they probably are there.

  6. *Found you through Jude*I just have to comment. I don't believe in ghosts. I believe that when you die, you go to Heaven or Hell. I don't believe in an in-between/stuck here for unfinished business kind of thing.

However{!}, I have had that same exact feeling, and it also involved the bathroom. When my #1 was 1 month old, my boss killed himself. My husband worked night shift at the time, and I always had to put the baby down in his room, right next to the bathroom. Every night, for about 3 months, I had a feeling that I'd look up and my boss would be standing in the bathroom doorway. The feeling was as real as if he was actually there. Just that sense that someone is watching you. Scary as hell! I really thought I'd have to see a shrink or something.

Over time, the feeling went away, but I can still feel that fear. It's strange. I may be the only person who wasn't laughing at your post. Sorry for the long comment, just wanted you to know you aren't crazy.

I'll be reading, I can see why Jude likes you.

  8. Well... I did think I saw one here at our old house! See, the lady who lived here, well, she was literally born in the house, and literally died in the house. SO, after we had just moved in I was putting some stuff in the attic, and when I walked in and looked up, all I saw was these arms and a dress. It was behind a chimmeny, so I thought it was Lola(yes that was really her name) up there. I ran screaming like a crazy woman, and wouldn't even go in the upstairs of the house until Micah got home. Then we ventured up to find... it was merely one of dresses left hanging there, behind the chimmeny. (where it looked like a persone standing!LOL) And even though we watch scary movies, I make Micah hold my hand or stand right there while I pee before bed!I am too chicken to look in the mirror too!

  9. I do not believe in ghost in the negative sense but I do believe in Spirits. I think since you have seen them more than once, it is a good thing and they will continue to appear until you are not afraid anymore. God did not give us a spirit of fear. Therefore, I would view the images as the Holy Spirit giving you what you need right now- guidance and support from older mothers. The next time you have to go to the bathroom, find something inside of you to thank God for sending these women to watch over you until the time you have surrendered the fear to Him and feel His presence with you in the bathroom, car, work, wherever. That's my story and I am sticking to it. Love ya!

  11. eThanks for the comments! Sean is my 3rd child, I got roped in to the "donation" thing when I dropped off my cats, too. $60 and I'm giving you something?!?

IYC means if you care. I don't like FYI, it's cheesy and overused. At the end of every post, I put a little tidbit about myself to either scrapbook or tell my kids or just laugh at myself. Stuff from my past or present or a wierd trait I have. It's fun to have to come up with stuff. I have no real friends! Is it obvious??

    Keep readin'! Chrissy

  12. Okay, if a ghost comes and visits me, I really hope it doesn't happen while I'm "going potty"! LOL
Actually, I do sometimes get a little freaked out--mostly when the house makes those friendly little "noises" that all houses do!
Your Baby C is just Adorable! And I know that your MIL would be so proud of her!!

  13. I have seen a shade of some kind I believe was inexplicable by our current means of detection.

Wether it was a "ghost" I have no idea - but instead of fear I felt a chilling calm - the fear did not come until after when I started to think on what I had seen.

  14. Hi Mel, this was interesting to me as I used to sense the presence of my boyfriend's mum when I stayed at his house. I had the same problem if I had to get up in the night. Terrifying! But I never woke him up. I used to go down on my own and jump back in the bed so fast after I turned off the light ;-). I don't know about seeing ghosts, but I think we can sense them. Sometimes I get the feeling that someone is watching me and when I turn around, there is no one there.

Maybe that's what was happening to you. I also smelt 'dog' in his kitchen and when I told him, he went white (as white as an Indian person can go) and he refused to discuss it. The next day he told me that was where his dog used to sleep before she died....
