We were getting ready for work and all went quiet in the house. You know that quiet that's tooooo quiet. So I went to the guest room...she wasn't there. I went into her room...she wasn't there...So I was about the ascend the stairs to our room...and she must have heard me calling her and turned around to come down the stairs.(She only knows how to go up stairs not down yet.) All I saw was her fall and hit the last step and of course I started screaming. That loud visceral scream that usually makes a child cry even if they didn't intend on crying in the first place.
I'm a lot better now, hence how I'm able to write this post.
As I didn't see how far she'd fallen or how high up she was when she started to fall, we rushed off to the hospital. She had a scan and everything seems normal. She has a bruise under her eye and that's about it. I still don't understand how she was still holding her cell phone even after she fell all that way.
It was so hard trying to calm her but not let her fall asleep...making her too calm made her want to close her eyes and I knew she couldn't until I got her checked out.
Big C rushed from work and met us at the hospital.

I brought her into day care today and Margie reminded me that it's the first of many! Her words stuck right in my head, to think that I might have to go through all that again...it's heart wrenching.

Sidenote: We do have a gate but it's usually kept at the top of the stairs to prevent her from falling down the stairs once she's up in our room. She's never gone up the stairs without us so we didn't even think about needing it at the bottom of the stairs. The gate is movable, so this morning once we'd all come down we brought it down with us and put it at the bottom. Of course this morning she sat right outside the shower and played with her cell phone and didn't move until I got out, she didn't even look at the stairs! Go figure!
Yes, this the first of many tumbles but not all are scary or heart wrenching. Thank God He made little kids durable. If you have not done so, scoot down the stairs with her on her bottom and she will do it on her own. Some kids go backwards, but the Duchess preferred forward so I would scoot with her until she could walk it. You know my final line... Welcome to parenting!
ReplyDeleteAwww, poor thing...and poor Courtney too...LOL! Oh my goodness, I know how you feel. We've been through that 3 times and it's not fun. And it's worse when you have a hard surface at the bottom of the stairs...like most homes do. As much as I hate to say it, this may be the first of a few. At least until she's really stable on those little feet.
ReplyDeleteGlad all is well.
Oh girl we should call DYFS on you~ Just kidding...hey you know the saying shit happens...consider this one of those times. And thank goodness wasn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteAnd she is a girl after all, that's why she never let go of her cell :)
Awww poor baby!!! Glad everyone is okay!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, poor little thing. Glad she's ok. She sure looks cute & happy in those pix.
ReplyDeleteawww. I could totally feel your emotion in this post. It's heart wrenching.
ReplyDeletePoor baby, poor mama. Glad she's fine.
Did Big C fuss at you for taking your camera to the hospital?
Something I would do, btw, but also something Sean would get mad at me for.
:)Chrissy
Man, that must have been so scary! I am glad she is okay, and maybe that will make her not want to attempt it again without you! :)
ReplyDeleteYour post casued me to gasp... but like another blogger said its the 1st of many and thank goodness kids are resilient and your lil pumpkin is ok.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and baby C! Joel fell down the stairs while he was learning and I totally get how horrible you felt. Hope you are having a better day! Kim
ReplyDeleteScary! I can tell how worried you were...as to be expected! On a happy note, baby C does look really happy in those pics..Glad she's ok!!
ReplyDeleteNow I need to go and pull my baby gate out of the closet! Megan is getting very curious about the stairs...she's pretty much ignored them until recently. You've motivated me to get it out!
I'm so glad that she is OK. We don't have stairs in our house. What I fear is my sunken marble tub that is right next the toilet. Ava was sitting on one day and leaned over to get something and fell right off. Thank God I was standing right there or she would have fell head first down in the tub. Talk about scared.
ReplyDeleteIt IS scary isn't it? Poor Baby C...Poor Mommy!
ReplyDeleteShe will make it through those bumps and bruises just fine.
Hugs,
Sue
Oh! I LOVE her pictures of late! She is just so adorable...give her a kiss for me!
