However, I've come across two new stores in the city (well new to me). They made me feel like I never left home, Meyers of Keswick and Tea & Sympathy. (Isn't Tea & Sympathy just the cutest name!)
Anyway, once again I digress....I bought wayyyyyy too much stuff...while I was in my twilight zone of thinking I was back home and a child again I managed to rack up $135 worth of English nonsense!!!
I got cumberland sausages, sausage rolls, cornish pasties, chocolate digestives, ribena, orange squash, salad cream, hp sauce, mint sauce, branston pickles, cream crackers, penguin, lilt, bisto gravy, heinz baked beans, spagehetti, tons of crisps, angel delight, sweets that they weighed by the 1/4 pound and a chocolate smarties easter egg for Baby C! I had completely forgot about real Easter Eggs and I would have got one for myself if they weren't so darn expensive $12.99!!!
The only reason I listed everything out is for those who know what I'm talking about they can oooooh and ahhhhh as they remember too!

When I was done shopping the guy in the shop helped me carry my bags all the way to the car. Now this might sound normal, but this is the city, there wasn't a parking lot and I was parked two blocks away and it was RAINING!!! I was so impressed I tipped him largely and asked him if there was any place I could get hot English food and he pointed me in the direction of:

REAL FISH AND CHIPS! at a place called A Salt and Battery, I was in seventh heaven...it taste just like home, nothing like the wanna be Arthur Treachers it was fantastic and Baby C loved it too! The following evening we ran back into the city this time taking Big C and I introduced him to his first Fish and Chips and Pickled Onion!!!
wow! that's quite a haul!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what it would be like to not have the things I've become so used to here. That's great you were able to find a little bit of home even if it's an ocean away. :)
how nice of the guy to walk you all the way to your car!
I knoe exactly what you mean as I always stock up when we go home to Buffalo! I was shocked to learn that butter lambs are not even sold down here my fist Easter! LOL. Glad you had fun and found a bit of home! :)
ReplyDelete"chocolate digestives, ribena"
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'll bite. What are they???
Ok, you have no idea how glad I am that you had links to all the stuff you bought :-). Some of it, I was saying to myself, "What in the world is that??" So, thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found something to make you happy and remind you of home.
It sounds positively delightful! How nice to find a slice of "home". I so want to go to Great Britain someday!
ReplyDeleteOMG SAUSAGE ROLLS are the reasaon I now need Weightwatchers! I have even tried making my own here and frozen shortcrust pastry and Jimmy Dean Pork Sage Sausagemeat make a reasonable job of it, but they are a bit dense!
ReplyDeleteI swear when I go home I am living on Curry, Bacon Sarnies and Sausage Rolls the whole time.
I am off to Amarillo in 3 weeks and there is a World Market store. I can get alot of things you got there, for a similar cost but not fresh stuff. I also have a similar bill usually, after all I only get there every 6 months!
ENJOY my friend :-)
Thank you so much for putting the links up there so I would know what you were talking about!:)
ReplyDeleteChocolate digestives: sounds horrible...looks DELICIOUS!
