Farewell Poppy

If you read this blog you'll remember my post about "Who has time to blog?".

I never did a follow up of how that day actually went, I was probably still in recovery mode for many weeks after. But the day was fantastic one of the best days ever, and I'd do it again in a heart beat, especially as the highlight of the day was a surprise birthday cake for Big C's grandfather.

It was the first time that Big's C's grand parents had ever come over to our house and Big C was over the moon. When we first moved into the house in years ago we had a house warming party and Big C was supposed to go and get his grandparents and bring them to our house for the party, but on the way there Big C got in a car accident and never made it there.

Ever since we'd been trying to get them out to our house (they live about an hour away) and finally on Christmas day 2008 they made it. The last time I saw Big C's eyes light up like that was when Baby C came out.

Big C was so excited he showed them the entire house even though his grandmother was really too exhausted to trek upstairs and downstairs, but he literally carried her on his back down one flight of stairs as she got winded once she was up stairs.

But Big C was determined to show them everything and when he was finally done we brought out the cake and we all sang happy birthday. Big C's grandfather was taken a back and nearly cried....it was worth every drop of sweat that went into the day.

We had no idea that would be the first and last birthday and christmas we'd ever spend together as he passed and was laid to rest this past Monday.

I feel as if god had it all planned from the start...well I know he did...and I'm truly happy that he managed to get them out to us for the first and last time.

If you look closely you can see the remains of his birthday cake off to one side, what a day to remember!

  4. Awww, I'm so sorry for your loss. Grandparents are awesome people, aren't they? And you're right, God knew all along that Poppy's passing was not far away. However, He made it possible for ya'll to be able to visit with eachother one last time.

Revel in the memories...trust me, they alone will keep a smile on your face and in your heart.

  7. It is easy to know how Big C felt to have his grandparents grace the home he has provided his family. It had to be like a special blessing to have had them there. Hopefully that visit lightens this loss a bit. I so loved and was so loved by my grandparents and miss them all every day. Blessings on your entire family as you celebrate Poppy's life.
