I found a few new loves during the Christmas break. I decided I wanted to do something different for Christmas dinner instead of the same old stuff so we had stuffed Cornish hens instead of a turkey. The recipe called to stuff the hen with bulgar which we'd never eaten before and I had no idea where to even buy it from.

I tried Trader Joe's first but alas they didn't have it, so then I went to a new grocery store that just opened up called
Wild by Nature, it's basically just like
Whole Foods selling natural and organic foods. Both Big C and myself fell in love with this bulgar stuffing
which was a mixture or Bulgar, feta cheese, herbs and pine nuts.
I also found a new love of
Ooba Hibiscus Flower drink which I also found at
Wild by Nature but it's kind of expensive at $2.95 but it's worth every single penny, not too sweet and really refreshing! And considering I pay more for Starbucks that has NO vitamin supplements what can I say.
While in
Wild by Nature Baby C noticed the Raspberry Yogurt covered pretzels! And at $7.99 per pound I only grabbed a few so she could try them....BUT we were back within the hour for our full pound!!!

Last but by no means least I fell back in love with cauliflower this Christmas. We're seriously trying to stay away from simple carbohydrates with Bic C and his diabetes, and the old favorite at Christmas for his family at Christmas is a big pan of macaroni and cheese!! I make a mean macaroni and cheese but I ONLY cook it once a year for the holidays, but this year to satisfy that cheese craving we cooked up
Cauliflower and Ham Gratin, and I don't think I'll ever look back at macaroni and cheese....it was sooooooo delightful I was sad at what I'd been missing for years.
I got so caught up in cooking Christmas day that I never had time to make my
Turkey Waldorf Salad or my
Chickpeas and Balsamic Vinegar Bruschetta, maybe this weekend I might try if I find the time.
P.S. I haven't made it to the little girls house yet, I plan on doing that this afternoon when I get home, I just didn't have the heart to do it before Christmas and potentially spoil her Christmas...I'll keep those interested posted.
fun stuff! sounds like you are enjoying cooking lately and eating healthy. And I love cauliflower! YUM!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Everything sounds so delish! Have to see you soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum.

Isn't bulgar what is used in taboli? I thought it would be fairly easy to find. Everything sounds a bit weird but your pictures and descriptions made my mouth water. Thankfully we don't have health food stores nearby because I would not pay those prices and I would feel sad. Whew!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, please share about your visit the the little girl's house.
I think it is so neat that you and Big C try different things.
ReplyDeleteThat would never fly at my house a.k.a. Chez Picky!

ReplyDeleteI want to try those pretzles. I bet they are so good. So did you go by the girls house yet?
