But when it comes to English chocolate and American tv I have no will power, and it irritates me to no end, that I am not a stronger person.
I also tend to watch the shows that at my age I have NO BUSINESS watching.
I DVR "Teen Moms" which is sad but I'll admit it. Teen Moms documents a vivid and harsh reality of the consequences of getting pregnant before you've even graduated High School...and all that comes along with it.
I plan on DVR'ing Kell on Earth as well when it finally comes on. I've graduated from Real World, but only just, and I still rush home for Survivor but don't mind catching Big Brother on re runs.
But it's Teen Moms that keeps me up at nights, just like it did last night. Every episode I sit there mesmerized at how Farrah came to be. I don't think I've ever been so mad and sad at the same time for a young girl on tv as I am with her. A young lady that constantly talks back in a condescending manner to her mother, calls her father by his first name, curses... real curses loudly at her father, and disrespects everyone who remotely challenges her as she grows up.
Every time I watch her I'm waiting for her mother to scream, intervene and demand respect. I'm waiting for MTV to step in and stop her from being so rude, I'm never waiting for her father to say ANYTHING, as if he hasn't up to this point then he obviously has NO BALLS and never plans to step in.
Farrah is also the only teen mother on the show that you have no idea who or where the father of her baby is. Every episode I watch, I remind myself to google her to find out about "her story".
Today I finally remembered and the first google result was a shocker....Farrah's mother was arrested for domestic violence for trying to strangle her her daughter Farrah???
It wasn't truly a shocker as Farrahs mother hit Farrah in the head with her hand last season and the MTV camera caught the entire event and didn't censor it at all. I was in shock back then that a mother would lay their hands on their child in such a manner that seemed so demeaning. What could a child possibly learn from such an action, how could a mother let herself go that far, and did she forget the camera was there? What happened to the old fashioned wooden spoon on the butt to say the least?
Though I've totally described the show as train wreck it does still have an important message that I think every teenager should hear, wait to have sex, wait to have children, enjoy your life while you're a child, and don't rush into being a grown up.
It's actually one of the few shows I sometimes watch with my now 12 year old step daughter, I comment along the way, probably driving her crazy, but I want to make sure she realizes the true meaning of actions and consequences, and how there's no turning back for these teens, only moving forward.
I know how important family is to you. My family is important to me. I loved my children and I showed them that love. We had normal clashes through their teenage years but nothing that burned any bridges. I do not understand domestic violence and abuse of children and think people like that need to be punished then rehabilitated and not given a television show.
ReplyDeleteDon't know about US telly but it's awful and depressing stuff on the UK telly. To be honest it's not part of my reality.
ReplyDeleteWhy give them any screen time? It's giving in to them. People want to be on telly no matter how awful they are. I'd be ashamed. One minute of fame. Pathetic!
I personally cannot stand reality TV, but I confess to having watched Jon & Kate Plus 8 a time or two.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get my hands on some british chocolate and snacks. The packaging itself intrigues me!
I have watched Teen Moms a time or two. I can't stand it. I have to turn it after a minute or two. That bratty child hasn't learned a thing and her kid is the one that will suffer for it. Talk about dysfunction. It makes me wonder how many other girls will get knocked up just to get their 15 minutes of fame.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you talk to your step daughter. Too many people don't want to talk about it! That's why teen pregnancy is so prevalent.
Also, what's different about English chocolate?
