Hi my name is Melanie and it's been 7 months since my last post....lol...I guess that's what an alcoholics anonymous meeting sounds like?
I told myself that I'd blog each day, now that I had more time on my hands...I never knew I was lying to myself. The days are so busy and pass so fast, my head spins at night. I have no idea how I managed life when I was a full time working mother...people tell me that my day was more structured allowing for completion of multiple tasks. I'm starting to think that they may be right.
But I cannot complain one bit, I thank God every week for this chapter in my life that I have been blessed to experience. I feel as if I'm truly making lemonade out of my lemons that's for sure!
As the days and months rolled on by I think I felt intimidated to blog again...I felt as if I had so much to say but it would take so long to go back and tell it all.
Now I just realized I'll just start with today and just go one day at a time....starting with TODAY!
Today was a day of FREE, FREE, FREE!!! I always knew my town had a plethora of free summer activities but I'd never been able to utilize them until now.
This morning at 10am Baby C and I headed to the library for their "Reading to the Dogs" program. Baby C didn't want to go, I think she was a little scared of the unknown...but when she got there she picked a dog and ended up being "Chatty Kathy"!
She picked the cutest Corgi named Coach and read two books to him independently....I was ONE PROUD MAMA that's for sure. The owner of Coach said her grandson was the same age as Baby C and she couldn't believe after hearing Baby C read that she ABOUT to go into 1st Grade...she said she read so well she would have assumed she WAS in 1st Grade!!!
All these summer learning workbooks are paying off even if some days it feels like torture just to get them completed.
She loved reading to Coach the Corgi in the end and didn't really want to leave. She's so excited about the library "Summer Reading Club" that she's in....she actually told me that she wants to hand in TWO reading logs each time instead of ONE! Bless her!
After the library we headed to the local pool out door pool and luckily because we have our "Recreation Activity Cards" we were able to get into the pool for FREE....(I told you it was a FREE DAY!).
I always feel bad when I take her to places like the pool as she never has anyone to play with...I don't know why I fret as she always makes friends quickly but she gets so shy and coy and just seems to follow and watch the new friend instead of playing with them...but it's cute none the less and it stops her from begging me to play with her.
I usually like to take a quick dip in the water, cool off and then sit in the sun until I dry completely and then dip in the water again!!
We did actually put up a big old pool in our back yard at the beginning of the summer but the grass was uneven by 3 inches and we saw the side wall straining and we were terrified that it would collapse so we quickly took it down and went "permanent pool" shopping....I had no idea that a real permanent pool was so reasonable. I know everyone says it's the maintenance that ends up killing you but it still seems worth it....so we're waiting for the season to be over and hopefully get something on sale.
But we'll see as I did have nightmares that neighboring kids were floating hurt in the pool the entire time it was up and I ended up loosing sleep over it....and the thought of the daily begging of someone to play with in the pool isn't the most appealing but what the heck.
After the free pool we headed to "Stomp it Up" a musical concert....it was so funny to see how much Baby C has grown....she acted if she were too old to get up and dance and have a good time but danced away while seated...but as soon as the bubble show started she couldn't keep up with her "Too Cool" for this routine and ran to the front of the stage. We also got a free "Child Safety ID Kit" done with finger prints and all...of course I pray I NEVER need it but I'd rather have it and never need it than need it and not have it.
She was pooped by the time we were done...but let her tell it she hadn't done ANYTHING fun all day! ??? Why do kids do that??? I reminded her that if she did NOTHING FUN then remind me to NEVER take you swimming again, never take you to read to the dogs again and never take you to a music concert again. She said "Oh yeah, I did have fun I forgot!" CHILD PLEASE! LOL
As I write this blog there's a half written camping list staring me in the face....I can't wait to go camping...I'm so excited. I guess I'll finish the list while I watch my new addiction "Meet the Hutterites" talk about an eye opening experience....convincing kids that education isn't important??? Huh? Interesting to say the least.
Any way, I think this was a good start back....I hope I'll be back tomorrow...god willing.
:D Welcome back!! So glad you guys are having fun and enjoying your "lemonade." :)
