To Bag or Not To Bag?

It's Baby C's birthday party soon and I've had quite a few people honor the old RSVP but I've had a few that haven't! Of course the few who haven't happen to be my and Big C's family which we both kind of expected.

So here's my question....

Do I make enough party bags for the people that RSVP'd?

OR

Do I make at least two extra for the rude folks that plan on showing up unannounced?

I guess with my tone you can kind of see which way I'm leaning but I need help and valid reasoning to lean to the other side!! LOL I know the only one that will suffer will be the child but still there's a reason for RSVP isn't there?

Hmm just had a thought...what about those people that don't even know that RSVP means Respondez S'il Vous Plait! And then what about those people that didn't take 5 years of french in school and don't know that Respondez S'il Vous Plait means Respond if you please or please respond. Or the English "Response Shall Verify Presence".

Ok so I'm totally over thinking this now....and to top it off I don't even know what I'm going to put in the party bags...I just remember getting so excited to get them as a kid and going through the bag over and over again on my way home after the party!! Do you remember that feeling? I used to separate the stuff out once I finally got home, I'd separate the candy from the toys! I never just left it all in the bag!

P.S. Any ideas on some cool items to put in the bags would be greatly appreciated...not matter how many of them I have to make!!!!

  1. Everytime I see "RSVP" I think of an old episode of Laverne and Shirley, where Laverne gets all excited about a fancy invitation, and says "That's French for 'Respond So Very Promptly'"

I'd be the gracious one and make extra bags. Put ramen noodles in them. heh. j/k

  3. Oh, this is such a touchy subject.

First of all, let me go ahead and answer the question at hand: just make bags for the ones you KNOW are attending. You have nothing to go on but what you know. If others show up and wonder where THEIR bags are, your only response can be that you didn't know they were even coming.

Ok, got THAT out of the way :-). PERSONALLY, I don't do the party favors/gift bags anymore. Reason being, I find it kinda silly to give your guests gifts for coming to your childs party. However, I also don't "encourage" my guests to bring my child a gift. Don't get me wrong, I don't DIScourage it either. I guess I just don't want my kids to "expect" something from people everytime they get visitors. I have to admit, there have been times, especially since I've become a SAHM, that I'm not financially able to buy a birthday gift. But the kids really want to see eachother and play together. Does that make sense?

And there are also times that we may bring a gift at a later time if we didn't have the means prior to the party.

Now as far as the RSVP thing goes...how many times have we, as adults seen that on invitations? 9 out of 10 times there's a phone number or something associated with that RSVP...I would think that common sense would tell the receiver that at some point, preferbably BEFORE the party, you should call that number! Why you may ask...TO TELL THEM IF YOU'RE COMING OR NOT!!! DUH!!! LOL

    Call me crazy! Hee Hee

P.S. I can't believe Little C is almost a year old! Hope ya'll have a great party!!! I'd RSVP if I was invited! SMILE

  4. I don't do party bags yet. Only because it's family coming and most of them are older anyways.

A trip to the dollar store will yield many things. Coloring books, crayons, bubbles, stickers.

  6. Ok, I would be perturbed too, BUT I learned after Lincoln;s first birthday, people are no longer feeling onliged to RSVP. Rude, yes. Can you fix it? No.So.... I would make the extra bags, but make sure they containg things Baby C will like/use so that if the non responders don't show up, you won't be stuck with stuff. As for the contents, it depends on the age of the kids attending. I love the good ol' playdough, cookies cutter combo. Or match box cars for boys and little girly accessories for girls. (Sorry, I know that is politically correct, but its true!)
So, let us know how it all goes. :) You can always start calling people to ask them too. I do that now if it something that I need a count for.

  7. stickers, definitely stickers. Cheap, all kids like 'em, if they go untouched, you can scrap 'em.

And, make a bag for everybody, or nobody. Or do what you want...it's YOUR party! :)

I did not know what RSVP stood for, but I always respond, either way.

Hope the party is a blast!

  8. Wow,all thse other responses make me sound so mean! I'm not ya'll, I PROMISE!!! Guess there's no need for me to look for invites from any of you, huh? LOL

I will say though, that I agree with Jude. Make sure that if you do bags for the guests you know are coming, make sure there's things in there that C enjoys. That's a great tip.

    I'll be nice now! :-)
