Stealing and Peoples homes.

Have you ever stolen something, I mean purposely taken something?

I went to a hotel once and went home with a folk from the hotel. I took it deliberately because all I wanted was one folk for work and you can only buy sets at the store or those little camping sets or something. We have plastic folks at work but when you're trying to stick a plastic folk in chicken parmigiana leftovers the folk tends to bend and break. (my cooking is not that bad but when you heat chicken in the microwave it tends to get a little tougher then when you originally cooked it right!)

Anyway, every time I eat with this stupid folk I am reminded of where it came from and how wrong it was to take it, and how the hotel is now missing a folk.

I know many of you might think, oh what's the big deal they probably charged you for it anyway in that fine print at the bottom of your bill.

But I really believe in "Do onto others as you'd like them to do unto you" and I'd be peeved if someone came over to my house and messed up my cutlery set by taking home just one folk!!! Wouldn't you!!!

Anyway, question: When people post pictures on their blog that are taken inside their home, do you stare at the background to get a glimpse into their home?

The picture below of Baby C and the doll made me think about this. I scrutinized the picture to make sure my house didn't look a mess in the background, or to make sure my name, address and social security number weren't visible in the background! LOL

I realized I really look at the background of people pictures. One time when I was looking at a picture on Chrissy's blog. I emailed her and asked her if a cloth in the background was from Ikea as it looked so familiar and we have the same clothes at our home.

Low and behold it was the same cloth and if it wasn't for Chrissys personality, I know anyone else would have thought me strange!!! LOL But a few days later she emailed me asking me if a bunk bed in the background of one of my videos was from Ikea as she had the same bunk bed for her boys!

Only us two would have noticed something so unimportant! But then I guess it's attention to details that me enjoy scrapbooking I guess.

Anyway I just came here to ramble..and now I'd done.

  1. I have taken towels from Hotels but never really thought that deep into it. I also look into the background of other peoples pictures to see what their house looks like, I guess I try to figure out what type of person they are from my little glimpse of their home.

  2. Girl, you are too funny. What an interesting topic, though. I'm pretty sure I've taken soaps from hotels. But never towels like most people tend to do. My hubby was "upset" with himself one time for not taking a robe from a nice hotel we stayed in once.

Now I will admit, I've taken office supplies (pens & pads) from work before. And NO...that's not why I'm not there anymore...LOL. My taking those items wasn't intentional. I didn't go in the supply room to take things to stock my home.

As far as the other part of your post, I do that! And my crazy self even looks at the details on TV shows and in catalogs. I am a huge stickler for details...although you can't tell that in some of the pictures I take :-). Thank goodness I know how to crop stuff out. But yes, I pay very close attention to detail...that's a very useable "gift" being a scrapbooker; just like you said.

  3. You are so funny! I don't think I've ever taken anything from a hotel. I did take a chapstick once when I was about 4, from the drug store. Boy, did I ever get in trouble for that! I couldn't resist though, it was Dr. Pepper flavored!
I do tend to look at the details in peoples pictures too. I think for me its kind of like when you listen to the radio, you (or maybe it's just me) get a metal picture of what the DJ looks like. It's kind of the same when you read someone's blog. You get a kind of sense of who they are, but then when they actually post a picture you can get a better feeling of what their enviornment is really like. That's what I'm looking for anyways!

  4. I once stole a candy at the grocery store (I think I was 5) and my Mom took me all the way back to the store and made me give it back (why I didn't eat it before she found out I'm not sure). If I take a pen by accident I take it back. I don't like to steal - even by accident - it eats me up inside.
About the details ... hmmm... I don't think I look quite as closely as you do, but on my own photos I try to make sure that there isn't unnessary clutter in the background to make a better pic!
    Have a wonderful day! Kim

  5. I have been know to steal office supplies, but never a fork :)

I love to look at people's homes. I just want to see how they live and how they organize and decorate. It just fascinates me. That's why I get giddy when people post pics of their spaces...love to see how others live.

    Maybe I'm just crazy...

  6. I'm a pen freak. I had to fill out some paperwork for my mother at the doctor's office once, and loved the pen so much, that I didn't put it back in the pencil can with the others. It was just one of those free pens that Rx companies hand out...right? There were millions of them...right?

And I always scrutinize people's photos...and tidy up the "photo shoot" area in my own photos!

  7. yeah I've taken things from hotels...why not? They don't miss it, no guilt here, LOL

And of course I look at peoples pictures...I love to see the insides of their houses.

Best time to see inside peoples houses is to take a walk at night time, LOL

  8. LOL! Hey I don't think I've ever commented, but I check in to see how you're doing from time to time (I'm a friend of Tricey). You got me today! Yesterday I took 4 bricks from a construction site near work b/c I needed them to hold down my artificial topiaries. SHAME! I thought about how wrong it was at the moment (and honestly before I even did it), but justified that since they were broken, buried in the sand, and the construction is WAY past the bricking stage then it was okay. Wrong. Wrong is wrong and I know that. ummm, how bad do I feel b/c I also know that I'm not taking them back b/c they're doing just the trick holding my plants down....

Oh and I'm such a background lookie-lou! Infact, you have the same sofa set that we have see! hehehe You've got great taste girl! Oh and since this is my first comment (or novel b/c it's soooo long) let me tell you how you're a wonderful mom with an adorable family.

  9. I so look into the pictures of people's homes! I love seeing houses and the way people decorate and live!
I study the homes in films and tv shows too. : )
Oh gosh...after our trip to NYC, I found a dinner knife in my purse...I did not put it there but there t was. It must have fallen off the table and landed there. Do not know which restaurant is was from tho'!
Did that count as stealing?? : )

    Hugs,
    Sue

  11. Oh yay! I'm going home later this week and my boys get to sleep in that bed!!!!

The picture seriously made me a little tear-y. I miss my little house so much and can't wait to get back to that IKEA bed!!

And I am just like you. I always try to think of what people will think when they see my background mess. I crop a lot.

Your backgrounds never stick out at dirty or gross in case you were wondering!

Also, I stole a baseball and football eraser out of pre-made Easter basket in a Hallmark store when I was in first grade. I felt so guilty, I left it on another kids desk to make myself feel better.

    :)Chrissy
