Little bit of this, little bit of that...

The week just flew by, Monday was uneventful, Tuesday we went to see the last "Movie by Moonlight" in the park, they were playing Planet 51 for free. It was actually our first time to "Movie by Moonlight" and I was actually surprised how crystal clear the blow up screen was and the sound system.

If it wasn't for my folding chair being a tad uncomfortable you couldn't have told me I was outside on a summers evening with the stars up above as opposed to a movie theater with THX Surround Sound!!

They had free popcorn with free refills for the kids and free hot chocolate...it sure was nice to see ones tax dollars at work.
We were getting all comfy watching people arrive when Big C recognized someone in the crowd...it happened to be Baby C's old buddy from day care.....Baby C was just delighted and suprised.

This past weekend we finally got pick the "fruits of our labor" and I plan on making tons of Tzatziki!!! Besides throwing cucumbers in  a salad or making cucumber sandwiches I'm not quite sure what else to do with them., but I am by no means complaining.

his is my first time growing anything in the back yard (even though we have a huge back yard) and I'm so proud of what we've accomplished I'm eager to plant more edible goodies....they're much more rewarding that flowers!!!

  1. I have always wanted to go to a movie by moolight. I know we use to have that last summer but i haven't heard anything about it this summer.

Congrats on the garden. Now I had never ever heard of Tzatziki until reading your blog. Thanks for including the link to it. I am so picky I would have to pass on eating that.

  2. Ooh, I have a cucumber recipe!

    Dill
    Garlic
    Rice or White Vinegar
    salt/pepper
Red Onions sliced thin thin thin
    Cucumbers sliced thin thin thin

Sean doesn't measure anything. It was just a little bit of vinegar, barely enough to make a puddle in the bottom of the bowl. Everything else was just a pinch here, a pinch there.

  3. Just stopping by to tell you how much I appreciate your visits to the Back Porch! I just now saw your Follow button and clicked. I am trying to make a concentrated effort to do more visiting. Been missing it!

    Loved this post! Beautiful images.

I make a sort of cucumber salad. Peel and slice cucumber, peel and slice thinly, onion and break into rings. Layer in a bowl. Mix a brine of half water half cider vinegar, 1/2 cup to 1 cup portions depending on salad size, with salt and pepper. Add sugar to taste. Pour over cucumbers and refrigerate several hours or overnight. You can keep this in the fridge for about a week, adding cucumbers as they deplete. This is so good. J doesn't eat cucumbers so I have to make small batches. It's one of my favorite summertime salads. I drain a few of the cucumbers and onion and serve with a slice of real summer tomato. The recipe is one of those "Granny" recipes, I talk about.:-) Makes me remember the good ol summertimes, when I was a kid.

  4. Oh we just did a movie in the park last week friday and LOVED it! It was Rear Window, so just us, no kiddos, but it was so much fun! :) Glad you all likes it too!

  5. Baby C looks so proud of the cucumbers as if she was totally responsible for growing them. Are they burpless cucumbers by any chance? We love cucumbers but they don't like us.
