Pacifiers, Poops and Martians

Sometimes I wonder if my child was taken over by a Martian at birth. She's such a good child that sometimes I get scared. I hear all the horror stories of what happened to this child and this child and what might happen at this age and this age. Sometimes she gets so much praise at day care for being the model child that I get embarrassed or feel guilty and swear I can feel burning eyes in the side of my head from other parents. She has her moments when she's sick and she's started to become a little defiant when you tell her to come, but for the most part she's the child that they "do" write about in those books. (Remind me of this comment in about 6 months when the terrible twos kick in and I might delete the entire post out of sheer embarrassment!)

I say all this because so far it's been a week without the pacifier (did you know we call this a dummy in England, it took me a while to catch on to the american name) and I swear she actually goes to bed easier and sleeps better without it than with it. The first night we tried she cried once, maybe twice for only a few minutes then fell asleep. It's been a week now and she hasn't cried since, hasn't whined for it once and seems to react as if nothings missing in her life. And I am very shocked! I think I am more traumatized by her lack of reaction than her actual reaction and I'm slowly realizing as I type this post that I'm obviously more obsessed over the entire state of affairs than anyone else! (Hmm I'll review this at another date!)

She used to get her pacifier only when she was going to bed and during the car ride to and from work when I knew she was tired. (It saved me from doing that mom the one handed driver skill, where you reach back with one foot on the gas, one hand on the wheel, one eye on the road and the other hand, foot, and eye in the back seat wrestling with the pacifer holder, clip and babies mouth! My car insurance company sure would be proud of me!) Now she just looks out the window as we ride and gradually falls asleep by herself. Not that the scenery is anything fantastic to keep her awake, I mean if you've seen one tree and shrub you've really seen them all haven't you!

I will add that the first day at day care that she slept without her pacifier, I ran upstairs to my desk (her day care is on the lower level at my job) and called Big C and I told him to run around the house gathering up the pacifiers strategically placed around the house and hide them in the dishwasher. (Of course whenever I tell Big C to run and do anything he always tells me that unless the house is on fire walking should be sufficient! Men don't you ever get excited about anything! LOL) I think I was terrified that if she got home and saw just ONE pacifier then the days events would have been in vain. (It's funny how ones mind plays little tricks on oneself isn't it, then again it might be just me that this happens to! Feel free to chime in and let me know it's just me!)

To add to the months joy, (please stop reading if you're easily grossed out or about to eat lunch that consists of brownies!) Baby C used the potty for the first time this weekend!!! She did a number 2! I am soo sorry if that's way TMI for some, but I know mothers out there will feel my joy and if you don't jump up and down like I did I will understand. I will also understand if unlike me you didn't run and grab the camera to take pictures of this monumental event, totally scary your poor 15 month old child into a state in which she probably won't touch the potty ever again in life let alone leave a deposit in it!

I would share pictures because what's a post without pictures...but I think that's a little bit over the edge and well I don't want to get banned from blogger! So I'll leave you with this ultimate weekend find, it's a Carters all in one playwear that was a total steal from Costco for $6.97. Needless to say I bought every color and left with $100 worth of playwear after only entering Costco for a pastrami sandwich! I'm the reason they put candy down the cash out lines, talk about an impulse buyer, if I would have made it to the food area without passing a thing I would have been fine.

  1. I love it and look forward to seeing the other colors. I refuse to go to the clothing section in Sam's just for that reason. I also avoid the kids DVD's. BTW- we never had terrible two's because from her first b-day we kept saying terrific three's and we are entering the fantastic and fabulous four's.

  2. You are too much! But I feel you...it's the little things in a mothers life that makes her day. Especially those with just one child. Or in my case, one baby after MANY, MANY years of having NO one under the age of 6 in the home. I mean, EVERY SINGLE thing that Jayla did was Kodak moment worthy :-).

That little outfit is TOO cute! I am really getting into the chocolate brown on little girls. Sounds like I need you to go shopping for me...lol.

  3. I felt your joy 17 years ago and I jumped up and down like you did and totally understand... The play jumper is sooooo cute, the clothes for toddler now are adorable. My daughter back when wore mostly overalls, which were the all-in-one playwear back then - I would decorate them with appliques....lol

  8. Thanks for the awesome compliment on my skirt. Its funny, I went looking for a tank top to match the skirt and didn't find anything. I have a chest full of tank tops and decided to dig in it and luckily found the beige tank top I'd purchased sometime ago from Walmart for $3.00...lol
