Go on read my mind....

I heard years ago when gmail came on the scene that they had programs that scanned your emails and delivered specific ads to the page based on the content of your email.

But I'd never experienced more than that, ....yesterday it felt eery knowing that they were reading my emails.

Yesterday I composed an email for my girl scout troop.

In the body of the email I wrote "attached to this email please find the flyer for...."

I then hit send right as I remembered that I'd forgotten to attach the darn flyer!

But instead of the email shooting off into the outer planets and me getting pissed that I'd have to look like a complete fool and send it again.....

A pop up box came up on the screen looking like this:

I was totally taken a back, I felt like looking over my shoulder to see if someone was there reading my email as I typed! LOL

I swear it was the strangest encounter I've had in a while.....nearly as strange as when I searched for "meyers cleaning" on google and all of a sudden a little embedded picture of a fellow blogger appeared along with a link to a post they'd written months earlier that referenced "meyers cleaner"

My search results looked a little something like this, and it totally freaked me out!

See that little image there and the name "Veronica Jennings" that's one of the blogs in my google reader and it's letting me know she did a blog post earlier this year on "Meyers Household Cleaner"......

Ughh talk about big brother is watching you all the time....I love technology I really do...hmm I wonder if Google knows what I'm thinking right now.....????

  1. That's why I hate Facebook! How can you recommend people for me when I didn't even sign up with my real last name? How did they know to suggest a person to me whose email address I blocked almost 3 years ago? I had suggestions for people that I knew of but had never emailed at all. Creepy stuff...

  3. Yeah I find it creepy! Same thing tends to happen on Yahoo too, but it's not quite as specific.

I remember writing an email to someone about not feeling too well, and immediately afterwards loads of ads appeared about cancer. Thanks Google! That's why I changed to Yahoo.

    That really freaked me out!

  5. yes, it is a little freaky when you go to some random site and people's FB picture pops up... when you "like" something on FB it gives them the right to use your name... your WHOLE name to do so. yikes!
