I've said it before and I'll say it again....to me I decide if you're a friend vs an acquaintance based on just ONE thing.
If I was at the airport at 3AM would I call you to come and get me??
A friend I could call and I'd know they'd understand, an acquaintance I wouldn't call their house that time of day.
I think of my friends as people I can talk to as frequently as every day or as little as every month or even year and the conversation is so effortless and without consequences. A friend is someone I consciously pick, so I don't really consider family as friends, to me they'll always be family.
❤ I have my friend Natasha, she's the wild lets go out and have fun friend. I can really let my hair down with her. (NY)
❤ Then there's Camille she's the dependable, mature, lets pencil in coffee and a play date kind of friend. (NY)
❤ Then there's Kim she's the wise, religious, don't curse around keep you in reality friend. (TX)
❤ Jackye's the friend that I can talk to once a year and it's like a day never passed. (TX)
❤ Aly's the friend that just gets me! No matter what she just gets me.(NJ)
❤ Jude's probably the only male friend, he's the rock, the constant in my life. (MD)
❤ Ella is my longest friend, the one i'll sit on the porch with when I'm 90 talking about the old days.
❤ Monika, she's the friend from those teenage years of discovering boys, you'll never forget this friend. I haven't seen her in years and we barely keep in touch but she'll ALWAYS be considered a friend. (UK)
❤ Rebecca is that reliable, sweet, friend with a good heart. I just ❤ her. (NY)
I seriously love my small, but precious circle of friends...without them, who knows where I'd be!
I'm doing 30 days of blogging challenge! this is day 26, see the rest here.
Oh I've learnt the difference between a friend and an acquaintance. I love that with real friends the distance doesn't matter or the time doesn't matter. When you're together again, it's like you were never apart.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, it has to be a very good friend to get out of bed at 3am and go collect someone from the airport. In fact, I only after my phone to certain friends at 3am. Some friends will only call at that time during an emergency whilst I have another friend who often calls, drunk, at that time xx
What a great bunch of friends you have. I'm willing to bet they would have some lovely descriptions of you as their friend too!
ReplyDeleteOh I needed to mention my favorite coffee mug given to me by a dear friend. It says, "A true friend is someone who's not afraid to tell you that you have gunk in your teeth".
ReplyDeleteYou're blessed to have such good friends! Have a great day! :-)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It took me awhile before I learned the differences between a friend and an associate and an acquaintance, but I eventually learned. The hard way, of course.
ReplyDeleteBut I did learn.
I have a few friends like you described.
Ah that's lovely xx

Ok. I just composed a nice long answer to your email while in the subway. And it DISAPPEARED before I could send it. WTF! So now this version of my answer feels more like a copy of the very original thoughts that come to my mind early in an already annoying morning. Did I say WTF yet? Just in case I didn't. There it is! WTF! Sigh... lol
ReplyDeleteOk. Oh yes! Here's what I said. I now know the cost of admission to the Mel Cou fan club. Pick you up from the airport at 3AM? Girl. I would totally do it! Thanks for thinking of me as a friend, I feel the same way. Tissues? Feels like we need to hug now.
Being dependable is good and bad. It attracks guys that are not! So it sounds lime I need to hangout with your friend Natasha so I can let may hair (synthetic and natural down).
