A bit of this and a bit of that...

Finding comfort in old habits, first night without Big C and I found myself making lists, list making seems to make me feel that much better.

I have a list of things to do today, I have a list of things to do while he's gone, and I have a list of things that Big C would normally do that I'm going to have to do.

Yesterday I had to move the trash can around back when I got home. This time I thought first and didn't leave Baby C in the house with the doors wide open!! This time I left her in the car, all strapped in and locked!!! I told her what I was about to do and she was able to watch me for the most part.....but this time no bright shining lights came down the drive way.

I want to re-pot my plants while Big C's gone. Not that I couldn't have done it while he was here but I just need things to keep me busy and occupied.

We have a new buddy from swim class coming over tonight to cut pumpkins, so that should be a treat. Don't worry I didn't just meet them last Wednesday and begged them to come over!!!! We befriended them at the begging of the year and we've been to the beach together during the summer and pumpkin picking a few months ago. Big C's like them alot so he'd probably find comfort in them being around.

Of course we're actually going trick or treating tomorrow thanks to my good friend whose other half is also up in Buffalo. Big C made it up there late last night and he sounded absolutely exhausted!!! I wish he'd taken a camera with him...he says he'll have some jobs near Niagara Falls! I've never actually been that far up I don't think.

I saw a news report Monday night about a man who recently got released from prison after spending 26 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Of course words can't explain any of it so I'm not even going to try, but thank god for the Innocence Project. The story stated that he earned two degrees in college, and while I was proud of him, it made me think how far can one go in terms of education in prison. Can you get your masters or your doctorate or just an undergrad?

On my ride to work I thought again about this man and his two college degrees and I thought. Is it possible for a person NOT in prison to get two degrees without paying for it? Do you have to go to to prison to get a free degree? I know there are grants, loans and scholarships, and I know if you go in state as opposed to out of state it's cheaper. But my question still remains...can you ACTUALLY go to college without paying a penny.

Even if you got a scholarship, would it pay for your transportation to and from school if you didn't stay on campus. If you did stay on campus would it pay for your room and board and books and food?

Of course all of this is nothing compared to your freedom, but it just made me wonder if it is at all possible?

Anyhoo, lighter note....Baby C had her Halloween Parade at Day Care today....let me start out by saying...I did buy my daughter a princess Tinkerbell looking costume WITHOUT first asking her what she wanted to be. I wrongly assumed that all girls want frilly Disney princess things just like their friends!!! Lesson one: Disney does not control the world when it comes to Halloween!!!

I even took Baby C with me to return the Tinkerbell looking costume just in case she'd change her mind on the way there...but NOPE she stuck to her guns!! (That's my girl!) and repeated that she wanted to be "A GOOD PIRATE MOMMY NOT A BAD ONE!"

So a pirate she was!!! I'm actually proud of her on so many different levels.

A Proud Pirate amongst princesses!!!

Her smile is priceless she's so stikin happy!

At age 3 I thought she'd be persuaded, I thought she'd buckle under the weight, I thought she'd be a follower not a leader, I thought she'd want to blend in, I completely forgot that she had a mind of her own and for that I'm so proud I'm crying.

  1. My husband has to be away overnight once in a while for just one or two nights. I have a special "comfort food" that I treat myself to when he's away. You might laugh. My comfort food is tortilla chips and jalapeno bean dip.

At the store earlier I saw twin girls, about five years old I think, dressed as spiders. So cute.

  2. Hey girl! Thanks for the nice comment you left at My Place! You asked about how I take my pictures...don't laugh, but I use a white Tshirt then prop the layout in a chair outside and snap away. I use a Kodak software to crop and lighten the pictures, but normally on a sunny day I don't have to brighten them too much. I hope this helps! :)

  6. I hope you had a good time with your house guests tonight. I can't believe that I forgot to pick up a few pumpkins so that we could carve them tonight.

  7. I hope BabyC has a great Halloween, she looks adorable. Just started reading your blog so, still making my way through it.

On the question of education and prisons, yes you can get anything from a GED to PHD and it's paid for by the government....well with the help of the tax payers.

    Have a great weekend.

  8. That is a marvelous story! And what a big smile on such a little (good) pirate! LOL

If it helps at all, Buffalo gets a bum rap. It's not a bad place and even the weather isn't as bad as rumour would lead you to believe. I wish I was still there we would invite your poor husband to supper...we know how it is to have a traveling daddy.

Hang in there! He'll be home soon!
    Happy Halloween!

  9. A mind of her own? Can't imagine where she gets that. You are raising a brilliant little girl to be an amazing woman one day.

She makes a great pirate. :)

  10. Awwww how awesome she knows her own mind! Mine picked her own costume this year too (and last year). You are doing great without Big C - wishing him a speedy return home.

  11. About the innocence project, there's a really good book by John Grisham which is a non fiction all about a guy saved from death row, actually it was two guys (friends) who wasted in prison for 20 years.

They were finally exonorated. It's a heck of a story and a must read.
