I went down to the mail room after visiting baby C with 5 small packages that I needed to mail.
The mail man put them through the pitney bowes machine and read of each package as it shot threw....
"this one's 63 cents"
"this one's 63 cents"
"this one's 63 cents"
"this one's 63 cents"
"this one's 87 cents"
I only had $10 with me and I'd already told him they'd better be less than $10!!! He said to me that if I could guess how much the total was quickly I could get them mailed for free!!!
I quickly multiplied my 63 by 4 and then tried to add my 87 cents...I hate odd numbers and I hate multiplying and adding them even more.
It took me mere seconds and I turned to him with my answer of $3.39.
I think I was more shocked than he was that I came up with the right answer that quickly but I moved round to the other side of the table and looked at the dial pad on the machine and there it was $3.39...
He told me "have a nice day" and I walked off with my crisp 10 dollar bill!!!
I came upstairs and called my husband to tell him what happened and he said "You'd better use him for Christmas then!!"
Only in your world! I dare you to try that at the post office near my job. They may charge you an extra $1.00 for not having exact change. I wonder if he paid the $3.39 out of his pocket to make sure they balanced at the end of the day. Sorry, the finance part of me coming out. They probably get an allowance of how much they can waive so don't go down there asking the mailroom if someone paid it out of their pocket. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteLucky you!!! In answer to your question, I am moving about 15 minutes away from where I live now. I am going to miss the school system though. Dana
